New partner for DLA Piper Chile
DLA Piper Chile announces last Thursday, January 2, 2020, the appointment of Mauricio Halpern as new partner to its Santiago office into the key practice area of Banking and Finance.
Mauricio has 17 years of extensive experience in the legal world. Since 2017 he has been working as Counsel for the firm. Before DLA Piper, between 2015 and 2017, he acted as General Counsel for the third largest retail- supermarket chain in Chile, SMU S.A. He also served as Executive Legal Manager at Pacific Hydro Chile (2011-2015), Australian renewable energy developer and previously as Senior Associate at Bahamondez, Alvarez & Zegers (BAZ- forerunner firm of DLA Piper Chile).
In 2009, as a Fulbright Scholar, obtained his LL.M at the University of Pennsylvania, working afterwards as a Foreign Law Clerk for the practice of Project Finance at Clifford Chance US LLP, in Washington D.C., USA.
Mauricio concentrate his practice in Corporate Law, with special emphasis in Finance Law, Capital Markets and Compliance matters, advising various high-profile foreign and domestic clients in a wide range of structured transactions, corporate and project financing (e.g. energy and infrastructure) and lending sphere products. At SMU S.A., he heads the IPO process and some debt bond issuances.
Considering his unique in-house counsel knowledge, Mauricio has been leading, with Diego Noguera, the Compliance and Risk Management practice of the firm, supporting our clients not only developing and implementing regulatory compliance models and structures, but also producing policies, procedures, fraud report “hot-lines”, risk matrixes and control score-cards, providing them with best practices and high market standards.
