DLA Piper Chile incorporates a new counsel to the antitrust area
The lawyer worked since 2013 in the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office.
With the aim of continuing to strengthen the firm’s antitrust practice area, DLA Piper Chile has incorporated Sofía O´Ryan as counsel.
Sofía graduated from Universidad de Chile, and she also obtained a Master of Laws in Competition Law (LL.M) at King’s College London and did an internship at the Directorate General of Competition of the European Commission in Belgium. Since 2013 she worked at the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (Fiscalía Nacional Económica – FNE), gaining extensive experience in Competition Law, especially in merger control, unilateral abuses and horizontal agreements. Before joining DLA Piper Chile she worked at FNE´s Mergers Division, then she was Coordinator of that division and recently she was Coordinator of the Antitrust Division.
Partner Felipe Bahamondez, head of the antitrust practice area at DLA Piper Chile, points out that “the development of this area has been a tremendous contribution to our clients. We have been able to provide them with concrete and innovative solutions to the various needs they have in their respective businesses”.
Regarding how companies will adapt to the challenges of the Covid-19 world, Sofía mentions that “concentrations, collaboration agreements and, eventually, shares acquisitions in competitors will probably be strengthened, enhancing the relevance of their competitive analysis. This, in turn, will challenge the authorities, not only in terms of the speed of their decisions, but also in the ability to determine its legality, especially considering the imminent digitalization of certain industries”.
Sofía, who will work directly with partner Felipe Bahamondez, will advise companies on matters related to concentration, unilateral conduct, horizontal and vertical agreements, both in investigations before the FNE and in proceedings before the Antitrust Court. She will also work in the design and implementation of commercial policies consistent with the strategic objectives of each client and the regulations in force, as well as in the development of compliance programs and internal investigations for the timely prevention and detection of potentially risky behaviors, accompanying clients in the definition of the most appropriate solutions.
With this, DLA Piper Chile has 9 partners, 8 counsels and 31 associates.
