Diego Peña: New partner at DLA Piper Chile

With the aim of strengthening the firm’s regulatory and energy and natural resources practices, Diego Peña will join DLA Piper Chile as a new partner as of January 2022. “It is very motivating to continue growing in a project with which I identify, with a first class team, innovative, close to our clients and with a culture of making our practice a space full of opportunities,” says Diego.

Diego has been working at DLA Piper Chile since 2015. He studied law at the University of Chile, and later obtained a Master of Laws at Northwestern University (Chicago). In addition, in 2012 he obtained a Certificate in Business Administration from IE Business School (Madrid) and in 2021 a Diploma in Future Electricity Markets and their Regulation from the School of Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Thanks to our global presence, Diego worked in 2019 in the city of Perth at DLA Piper Australia. Prior to joining DLA Piper, he worked as an associate in two local firms between 2009 and 2015.

He has concentrated his practice in advising local and foreign clients in various matters, including energy and natural resources, infrastructure, public works concessions, highlighting the development of renewable energy projects and energy transition matters. In this regard, Diego has significant experience advising developers, operators and private investors, engineering and construction companies, and banks and financial and insurance institutions, in the different stages and aspects involved in energy and infrastructure projects developed in Chile and the rest of Latin America.

“For us it is a tremendous pride to have a person like Diego as a partner because he combines the characteristics of a great lawyer and an excellent person,” says Felipe Bahamondez, partner in charge of the regulatory and energy area and co-managing partner of DLA Piper Chile.

“The incorporation of Diego as partner is great news for the firm in general, and for the Chilean office in particular, due to his personal and professional qualities, which are widely recognized in the market. Also, together with the incorporation last November of Amory Heine as partner, is an additional sign of the growth and development that we have had and we are sure we will continue to have in Chile, thanks to the trust of our local and global clients,” said Matías Zegers, co-managing partner of DLA Piper Chile.

DLA Piper is a global firm with close to 5,000 professionals in more than 40 countries in South America, including Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Chile and in cooperation with Brazil; North America; Europe; Middle East; Africa and Asia Pacific.
